FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions)

How would you describe your congregation?

We have a small, friendly congregation with a beloved Rabbi.  We have families, couples, and singles from all parts of Long Island and Queens.  Many are dual-faith families.  We have a very comfortable and humble temple that is inclusive and welcoming to all.

What is your religious (Hebrew) school like?

Our religious school is Sundays only.  Children in first grade and up may attend.  There is a blend of cultural, religious, art, and Hebrew instruction.  Individualized instruction is given as needed, especially in the year leading up to the Bar or Bat Mitzvah, with the Rabbi preparing the students for their B’nei Mitzvot.  Afterwards, students can continue on to Confirmation class.  We also offer a free Pre-K/K play, art, music and story hour class from 10:50-11:50 am on Sunday.

How difficult is it to pick a particular Bar or Bat Mitzvah date?

Because we are a small congregation, religious school students can usually pick the date that they want to become a Bar or Bat Mitzvah and in almost all cases, they will be the only B’nei Mitzvah on that day.

Who is your Rabbi and what is he like?

Rabbi Stephen Goodman is our Rabbi.  While every congregation thinks that their Rabbi is the best, ours is the best!  He has a kind, gentle spirit that creates the most comfortable atmosphere.  And the kids love him!!!

When are your Shabbat services?

We have Shabbat services (“Multi-access” – in-person and via Zoom) on Friday nights at 7:30 p.m.

Do I need tickets for High Holy Day services?

Because we are a small congregation and we know all of our members, we do not use tickets for High Holy Day services.

Is there a way to see what your temple is like?

Contact us to arrange a visit.

What do I get for my membership dues?

Plenty. The regular benefits of membership include admission to High Holy Day services (and all other services), events, and more. Our Rabbi, Cantor, and members will be there to support you through life’s challenges and joys.  You will also be supporting our synagogue and the great programs we offer.  Our members find they get back much more than they pay for.
